Work Permits

Employment Insurance Regular Benefits
Employment Insurance (EI) provides Regular Benefits to individuals who lose their jobs through no fault of their own (for example, due to shortage of work, seasonal or mass lay-offs) and are available for and able to work, but can't find a job.

Job Creation Partnerships
The Job Creation Partnerships (JCP) employment benefit is a program designed to support projects that will provide work experience for Employment Insurance recipients.

Targeted Wage Subsidies
The Targeted Wage Subsidies program assists Employment Insurance eligible individuals experiencing difficulty in finding work to benefit from on-the-job work experience.

Employment Insurance and Workers and/or Residents Outside Canada
The Employment Insurance (EI) program may provide benefits to certain individuals who reside outside Canada if their job is insured under Canada's EI program.

Skills Development
The Skills Development program provides a negotiated amount of financial support for skills training to Employment Insurance eligible individuals.

Lifelong Learning Plan (LLP)
The Lifelong Learning Plan (LLP) allows individuals to withdraw funds from their registered retirement savings plans (RRSPs) to finance training or education for themselves or their spouse or common-law partner.

Health

Interim Federal Health Program
The Interim Federal Health Program provides temporary health insurance to refugees, protected persons and refugee claimants, as well as to their dependants, in Canada who are not yet covered by a provincial or territorial health insurance plan.

Housing

Resettlement Assistance Program
The Resettlement Assistance Program helps refugees and protected persons resettle in Canada by providing them with financial assistance to cover the costs of accommodations, essential clothing, household effects and other living expenses.

Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program - RRAP for Homeowners
The Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program for Homeowners provides funding to low-income persons who own and occupy substandard housing so that they can repair the housing to ensure that it meets the minimum federal health and safety standards.

Home Buyers' Plan
The Home Buyers' Plan allows eligible individuals to withdraw up to $20,000 tax free from their registered retirement savings plans (RRSPs) to purchase or build a qualifying home.

GST/HST New Housing Rebate
The GST/HST New Housing Rebate program provides a rebate on part of the GST or the federal part of the HST paid on the construction or purchase of most newly constructed or substantially renovated houses used as a primary place of residence.

ENERGY STAR Initiative
The ENERGY STAR Initiative provides information on provincial, territorial and private sector incentives and rebates to encourage consumers to purchase energy efficient products identified by the ENERGY STAR symbol.

Mortgage Loan Insurance
The Mortgage Loan Insurance program provides insurance on loans granted by approved lenders for the purchase, construction, renovation, or refinancing of single-family homes or multiple rental housing. The program also grants a 10% refund on its mortgage loan insurance premium when a borrower buys or builds an energy-efficient home or makes energy-saving renovations to an existing home.

Emergency Repair Program
The Emergency Repair Program provides funding to low-income homeowners and tenants in rural areas so that they can make emergency repairs to their homes in order to make them fit for habitation.

Travel

Travel Documents
The Travel Documents program issues travel documents to individuals who have refugee or protected person status in Canada. The program also issues certificates of identity to legally landed persons.

Travel Document - Permanent Resident Abroad
The Travel Document - Permanent Resident Abroad program issues temporary travel documents to permanent residents of Canada abroad who do not have a permanent resident card (PR Card).

Visitor Rebate Program
The Visitor Rebate Program allows business and leisure visitors to Canada to claim a rebate on the GST and the HST paid for accommodation in Canada and for most consumer goods purchased and removed from Canada.

NEXUS Highway
The NEXUS Highway program allows low-risk pre-approved travellers to use designated NEXUS lanes at certain border crossings without being subject to regular customs and immigration questioning.

CANPASS Air
The CANPASS Air program allows pre-screened, low-risk commercial airline passengers who are members of the program to use automated kiosks to clear customs and immigration quickly and securely at participating airports.

CANPASS - Private Boats
The CANPASS - Private Boats program allows CANPASS permit holders who wish to enter Canada aboard private boats from the United States to receive pre-authorized customs clearance.

CANPASS - Private Aircraft
The CANPASS - Private Aircraft program allows CANPASS permit holders aboard transborder flights of private aircraft originating in the United States (US) or cleared by US customs to enter Canada and land at an authorized airport of entry or designated CANPASS airport only.
